[ARCHIVED] Recycling Information

recycle smart

City residents pay $14.23 per month for trash service - one trash toter is emptied per week for this price.  If residents generate enough trash that they would like additional toters please call Waste Connections at 636-321-2100 to arrange for another trash toter to be delivered.  There is a fee for any additional toters and it will be collected by the trash company.  Recycling and yard waste pick ups are free services provided by the trash company.  As a free service, the trash company is very particular about how the recycling toter and yard waste are set out.

Bulk Items:  One bulk item per week can be picked up at no fee as long as the trash company is called (636-321-2100) at least two days before the regular trash day, the item weighs 50lbs or less and is easily manageable by one adult.  If the item is outside those parameters then the trash company could charge a fee.  If that's the case then the resident is not required to have Waste Connections pick up the item and may contract with any company they choose to dispose of the item.  If the trash company is not called the item will not be picked up.

Recycling:  Recycling is a free service and is picked up once per week and only the provided recycling toter may be filled.  Recycling does not need to be sorted and should be loose in the toter.  Plastic grocery bags and trash bags CANNOT be recycled as they get tangled in the sorting equipment and cause big problems at the recycling center.  Click HERE for a recycling flyer.

Yard Waste:  Yard waste is a free service and is picked up once a month.  It must be bagged or bundled to be picked up.  Each month a residence may have up to 12 yard waste bags, containers (clearly marked "Yard Waste."  The trash or recycling toter cannot be used for this.)  Yard waste cannot be in plastic bags.  Tree limbs that are less than 4" are to be bundled with twince in bundles no longer than 48" or 18" in diameter and may not exceed 5lbs,  Yard waste CANNOT be mixed in with trash.

Yard Waste Drop Off:  Yard waste may be taken to the city's maintenance shed at 500 Ridge Ave Monday - Friday between 7:30am-3:30pm on regular business days.  There is no one that can help you move the yard waste from your vehicle to the containers.  Yard waste CANNOT be placed on the ground near these containers and it may not be thrown over the fence after hours.  Continued abuse of this could result in this area being closed.

Appliances:  Washing machines, dryers, ranges, stoves, ovens, refrigerators, freezers, microwave ovens, air conditioners, hot water heaters, dishwashers, and household trash compactors are all considered Major Appliances.  These can be picked up curbside, but are to be scheduled like a bulk item.  There will be an additional fee for each of these items.
