The Street Department maintains over 66 linear miles (center-line miles) of streets at under 4.8 square miles of city area. The department is responsible for repair and maintenance of streets, storm sewers, trees, curbs, trash, street sweeping, barricading, bridges, street signs, and other duties as assigned.
The Festus Accssibility Plan is a plan for biking / walking areas throughout the city and an effort to improve accessibility.
The City of Festus has implemented a new plan for maintaining the streets of Festus. This plan includes preventative measures to reduce maintenance costs. These projects will greatly improve the conditions of the streets in Festus. The City is investing approximately $500,000 each year for this annual program.

One of the most common concerns raised by residents is speeding on residential streets. Traffic calming can be an excellent tool for enhancing the quality of life in neighborhoods by reducing traffic speeds, discouraging cut-through traffic, and improving safety on residential streets.
